The Virgin Islands beat Guatemala 82-58 in the Women’s Centrobasket tournament. The game was good, Guatemala was able compete in the 1st half, they stuck with the US Virgin Island pretty well. That being said, the Virgin Islands team was more talented, taller, and more experienced.
It was an entertaining first half, Guatemala played full court press the whole way which was intriguing. Guatemala played really great defense, they mixed it up, they played some zone and they also played solid man to man. The full court pressure raddled the Virgin Islands, who didn’t appear ready for it.
In the second half the US Virgin Islands pulled away. They overpowered Guatemala, they had more strength, they had bigger players and they just had more talent. That’s why it was a lopsided 82-58 victory for the VI. That being said, Guatemala played a great first half, they played a great first quarter in particular, they’re strong, good on defense, and showed potential.
Zaby Aldana played a strong game for Guatemala. She was able to penetrate and get where she wanted to go, she’s a five foot point guard. Aldana was awesome and feisty, a real catalyst for Guatemala. She showed potential, the ability to hit floaters and get teammates wide open shots.
