Hubie Brown’s last NBA telecast is happening this Sunday, February 9th at 2pm ET. He’ll be calling the Bucks-Sixers game. Even though it’s the same day as Super Bowl Sunday, this is a huge moment for anyone who loves basketball. Hubie is 91, and just to be able to call the game is incredible in its own right!
If you’re a student of the game, or a basketball historian, this is must see TV. Having listened to countless games called by Hubie Brown, it’s sad to see him go, but it’s been special to hear him break down the game.
Hubie has an incredible knack of taking simple stats and articulating their impact. He’s also quick to point out play calls and actions taking place on the court. His analysis has also been peppered with a healthy dose of passion, and taking in all of that has been a joy.
When Pau Gasol was early in his NBA career he was coached by Hubie Brown in Memphis. That team was young but scrappy, Coach Brown prepared them well to win as much as possible.
No one has seen all of what Hubie Brown has seen. His perspective and depth of knowledge is unparalleled. Please do yourself a favor and watch Sixers-Bucks tomorrow. Thank me later!
