After dreaming about playing for the Miami Heat, Stephon Marbury has snapped back to reality and agreed to a deal that will keep him in China with the Shanxi Zhongyu of the Chinese Basketball Association.
Terms of the deal were not disclosed but it was reported that Marbury earned a $100,000 for playing half a season last year. The deal is for 3 years but Marbury could be asked to join the coaching staff in year three. Also included in the deal is an agreement for team ownership to set up a business to produce and sell Marbury’s “Starbury” brand of shoes and apparel.
Marbury played in 15 games last season and quickly became a fan favorite. He is by far the highest profile NBA player to play in China’s professional league.
