Ramon Sessions On His Way to Cleveland

The Minnesota Timberwolves took a step at clearing up their crowded point guard position and the Cleveland Cavaliers added confusion to theirs.

Marc J. Spears of Yahoo sports reported tonight via twitter that the Cavaliers had indeed obtained Ramon Sessions, Ryan Hollins, and a draft pick from the Timberwolves for Delonte West and Sebastian Telfair.
Sessions at first glance would appear to be an odd match for Cleveland given the presence of Mo Williams but the situation in Cleveland is a lot better than it was in Minnesota where he was competing for playing time with Johnny Flynn, the newly acquired Luke Ridnour, and with Ricky Rubio waiting in the wings in Spain. Cleveland could decide to play Sessions and Williams together in the back court but their limited size might make that tough due to unfavorable match ups on the defensive end. Ryan Hollins also figures to get a shot to earn some minutes at Center for the Cavaliers.
Minnesota is expected to waive Delonte West which will wipe about 4 million dollars from their salary cap as only $500 thousand of his current deal is guaranteed. Telfair really doesn’t have a place in Minnesota either and T-Wolves GM David Kahn may try and move him in another deal as well.
The status of the draft pick that Cleveland is getting in this deal isn’t known yet. If it is a second round pick then this deal is probably a push at best as it helps Minnesota clear out some duplicated talent from its roster while providing Cleveland some depth at positions of need. However, if that pick turns out to be a first rounder then this could be a very good deal for Cleveland.
