IMPERIALS WIN EXHIBITION GAME! October 29, 2006 Boca Raton, Florida: The Palm Beach Imperials of the American Basketball Association (ABA) played host to Swish Hoops out of Miami in an exciting afternoon scrimmage game at Florida Atlantic University today. With the score tied 30 to 30 at the end of the first quarter, the Imperials jacked up a team total 128 points including an extra 11 points thanks to the ABA marquee 3-D Rule. This unique ABA rule enables a team to score an extra point whenever the ball is stolen in the backcourt. It’s this rule that Coach Carr is counting on to score his stated goal of 200-points this season.
Carl Jenkins led the Imperials with 21 points and 9 rebounds hitting his first 3-point shots. Other top performers for the Imperials were former Florida Pit Bull, Bobby St-Preux, who scored 19 points and newcomer Raphael Morris from Chicago/Venezuela who tossed in 20 points. Standout, Lamar Moore, former FAU baler had 10 points. Moore and St-Preux just finished a national Gatorade commercial with the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade. Look for the commercial this season.
Swish Hoops were led by Mark Augustin who scored 30 points making 12 out 19 free throws. Cory Lewis made 9 of 13 from the charity stripe for a total of 15 points. The Hoops team shot 70% from the line, making only one three pointer, while the Imperials made 13 3-pointers but shot dismal 52% from the line. For more information contact Imperials GM Lamont Carr at

RED AUERBACH DIES AT 89! Stop everything you are doing and mourn with the Auerbach family as the greatest Celtics coach ever has passed. I first have to send really deep sympathies to his family. This is going to be a little distraction to the start of the season for a good reason. I think every first game at NBA arenas should do a special ceremony for him and honor him. THIS IS SAD!
NEW SECTION ADDED UNDER SCOREBOARD: TEAM RECORDS!

SAD STRONG DOG PRESS RELEASE!
WITH TOO LITTLE COMMUNITY AND SPONSOR SUPPORT TAMPA BAY STRONG DOGS ABA BASKETBALL TEAM WILL NOT PLAY

WESLEY CHAPEL, Florida – Oct. 27 , 2006 – Six months after moving the Harlem Strong Dogs ABA basketball team to Tampa, Fla. Strong-S, the owner of the ABA Tampa Bay Strong Dogs professional basketball team, found that the team was unable to garner enough corporate sponsorships and community support to commit to play.
NUGGETS BEAT LAKERS 126-108!
The LA Lakers finished out their preseason with a loss to the Nuggets 126-108. Here is my game recap. The Lakers had great execution for being without Kobe all preseason. Still no word on if he will play on the Tuesday season opener. The Nuggets are looking good. Melo has become more of a leader and starring with his role. Melo led the Nuggets with 32 points and 3 boards in 31 minutes. His work ethic is shining now. If you look at tape from last season and this season, you will see a difference in confidence. J.R. Smith got 14 points and 3 boards in 22 minutes. He has to come in and be like a young, more talented Voshon Lenard. His shooting capabilities will earn him minutes on this deep squad. Andre Miller got 14 points and 11 assists in 30 minutes. George Karl thinks he is overweight. I have to agree; he looks different, but when it counts his weight shouldn't be an issue. Andrew Bynum, the birthday boy, got 23 points and grabbed 7 boards in 34 minutes. With the the early problems with Lakers big men, he might start the opener. I think he is looking stronger and more skilled on the court. Lamar Odom got 17 points and 5 boards in 28 minutes. Odom looks ready to go. I just want to see if he and Kobe can keep the chemistry they had in the playoffs last year. HAPPY BDAY BYNUM!

FULL RECAP OF CLIPPS BEATING LAKERS 91-90!
The Clippers and Lakers faced off in a battle for LA in the preseason; here is my recap.
The Lakers are not ready for the season yet. With tons of injuries left and right from Kobe to Mihm the season will start slow for the Lakers. The Clipps are there but not at 100% good health. I expect them to start out much better than the Lakers. The cat Cuttino Mobley led the way with 26 points and 3 assists in 41 minutes. Good game but lots of minutes for Mobley. When they actually abide by their rotation, Mobley will rest maybe 10+ more minutes. Corey Maggette got 14 points and boards in 19 minutes. Maggette is doing fine for the preseason. Last seasons injury is no longer a problem and Maggette, should be optimistic about this season. Elton Brand got 20 points and 4 steals in 30 minutes. Brand has been playing outstanding ball. His shooting is up to par and his overall play is better. Shaun Livingston got 11 points and 4 rebounds in 28 minutes. Livingston is improving. As Steve Kerr said last night, he is the point guard of the future for them as they progress into a premiere NBA team. Jordan Farmar sparkled off the bench with 14 points and 2 steals in 20 minutes. His game was great, except the end. He showed early he may be uncomfortable being the closer when Kobe can't be. I think he will learn the way and become one later on though. Maurice Evans drove in for 10 points and 3 steals in 31 minutes. Evans was very athletic in the 1st quarter. He didn't play very much, but is an imminent factor to the Lakers attack. Sasha Vujacic got 10 points and 3 boards in 22 minutes. Vujacic had a major rise in confidence. His shooting was perfected and his level of comfort was more visable on the floor.

Keep up with my score board on the top left side of my blog for game scores updated during the night.

LAKERS ON TNT TONIGHT AT 10 PM EASTERN! Tonight on TNT the LA Lakers with play LA Clippers at 10 pm Eastern time. What a nice rivalry to start with. My prediction for this game is it will be very close, and the Clipps might come out with a win. WATCH IT!

CAVS BEAT MACCABI ELITE 93-52 IN BLOWOUT!
The Cavs beat Maccabi Elite of the Euroleague in a preseason game in Cleveland. Tough time playing the NBA teams for Maccabi. They seem to struggle against each one. Bron Bron did it all with 13 points, 8 boards and 8 assists. LJ just has to keep up the heat he's got going and the Cavs will do great this season. Drew Gooden had a good game with 21 points and 8 boards. Gooden has to stand out more late season. Sometimes I forgot he was even playing out there. Donyell Marshall got 19 points and 10 boards and shot 8-12 from the field. Marshall was on a nice streak in the playoffs. I think he will take that confidence gained from the playoffs and come steaming into this season. Larry Hughes got 12 points and 3 assists. Hughes will be fine. It will be interesting to see how he meshes with LJ for an entire season. Keep checking the top left scoreboards for updated scores on more of tonight's games.

MORE PRESEASON COVERAGE!
Last night there were six preseason games. First I want to congratulate the Knicks on their 111-97 win over the New Jersey Nets in their first preseason game. The Knicks seemed to play a good team game under Isiah Thomas. Stephon Marbury got 16 points and 1 steal in 22 minutes. Marbury is just getting started. I think he will embrace Isiah and play well under him. Quentin Richardson got 14 points and 3 assists in 23 minutes. They still probably want to trade him. I would be surprised if heavy rumors start buzzing or he gets dealt. Marcus Williams got 21 points and 7 assists in 32 minutes. Williams is a steal. He puts in points and can dish the ball also.

Next my recap on the Bucks beating the Bobcats 104-100. Michael Redd got 21 points and 3 assists in 26 minutes. Redd is still the leader for the Bucks. He knows he has to play big for them to win. Charlie Bell got 16 points and 2 steals in 24 minutes. Raymond Felton got 20 points and 6 boards in 27 minutes. Felton is outstanding. I really hope he can stay healthy and lead the Bobcats well.

Now my recap on the Cavs beating the Celtics 91-82.. This should have been a game of stars. But Bron Bron didn't play and Paul Pierce left in the 3rd quarter with a hip problem. The crowd did get a nice fast break show on the Celts side lead by Sebastian Telfair's flashy passing skills. Larry Hughes got 14 points and 4 assists in 24 minutes. Hughes did great. Even though it's preseason Hughes has to know when Bron isn't playing he is vital to the Cavs game. Sebastian Telfair got 16 points and 7 assists in 33 minutes. Telfair is getting used to Boston. He will do great their and is good for Doc's system.

I won't recap the other games, but I will tell you the scores.

The Magic beat the Hornets 100-85. The Pistons beat the Timberwolves 101-96. The Rockets beat the Hawks 107-93.

BUY SOMETHING FROM BONO'S PRODUCT RED!
Watching Larry King yesterday I saw Bono and Bobby Schriver promoting for the new (product) red. They have teamed up with companies to make red ipods, shoes, clothes, watches and more. Most of the money you spend on the products goes to helping AIDs infected people in Africa get drugs to help them. The coolest product I saw was the Converse mud cloth shoe which costs $295. It costs a lot but you are helping a great cause by buying them.

RAPTORS BEAT CELTS IN FIRST OT OF PRESEASON AND PACERS BEAT NETS!
The Pacers beat the Nets 103-89. The Toronto Raptors beat the Celtics 118-112 in overtime. Here is my recap for the Pacers game. The Pacers had a good scoring attack without Jermaine O'Neal who had a DNP. I think the Nets will be better in the season but will not try as hard in the preseason. Al Harrington got 21 points and 9 boards in 23 minutes. Great comeback to the Pacers for Harrington. I know he will be good to have when other Pacers are hurt. Antoine Wright got 23 points and 4 boards in 35 minutes. Good game for Wright. Now for the recap on the overtime Raptors game. Chris Bosh led the Raptors with 22 points and 4 boards in 23 minutes. Bosh was on fire. I hope his offense will keep improving so he can beat bad on both end of the floor. Rajon Rondo got 29 points and 5 assists in 38 minutes. Rondo played well but it's preseason. He is good but I don't expect him to put up these type of numbers consecutively during the season.
MORE COVERAGE OF TONIGHT'S GAMES COMING IN THE MORNING!
SUNS BEAT MACCABI TEL AVIV 119-102 AND SIXERS BEAT CSKA MOSCOW 85-71!
The Phoenix Suns beat Maccabi Tel Aviv 119-102, and the Sixers beat CSKA Moscow 85-71 to finish up the Europe Live games. It's too bad this had to end, but it was a good experience for both leagues. Amare Stuodamire got 11 points in 24 minutes. He is working himself back. I like that he can make it through back to back games. "We're not going to play great basketball until he's 100 percent," Suns coach Mike D'Antoni said. Marcus Banks got 21 points and made all 10 of his free throws. Good to see Banks fit in. This is his style of play and he should do great. The other game was the Sixer and CSKA Moscow with the Sixers winning 85-71, and here is my recap of that. I saw a little of the 3rd and 4th periods and was surprised Moscow couldn't pull off a successful comeback. I was routing for them to see an international team win the last game of Europe Live but they came up short.
CAN'T WAIT TO SEE ANOTHER EUROPE LIVE GAME!

MORE PRESEASON COVERAGE!
A lot more preseason games went down last night. First, the Magic beat the Bobcats 109-90. The Magic had a great game getting seven players in double figures. Dwight Howard got 18 points and 10 boards in 24 minutes. He keeps improving. I look for him to make the All Star team this year, or be very close. Keyon Dooling got 10 points and 1 assist in 20 minutes. Dooling needs to stay healthy this season. If he can, the Magic may be able to pull off that run they had late last year even longer. Grant Hill got 16 points and 2 assists in 18 minutes. Great to see him on the court. Let's just hope he can have a full healthy season. Adam Morrison got 19 points and 1 board in 24 and a half minutes. Wonderful start for Morrison. I look for him to boost the Bobcats offense a lot this year. Next, the Celtics beat the Cavs 109-93. This is kind of a surprise to me. Although it is only preseason LJ didn't really do much. Paul Pierce got 17 points and 3 assists in 23 minutes. Nice start for Pierce also. He should be happy as long as he is getting some help on the court this year. Gerald Green got 14 points and 6 boards in 35 minutes. Green needs to keep doing what he's doing. He has to impress them to stay out of the D-League this season. Next the Hornets beat the Mavs 84-81. David West led the Hornets with 17 points and 3 boards in 24 minutes. West is a great scorer. He will continue to be a great underrated player for the Hornets. Josh Howard got 16 points and 3 boards in 22 minutes. Howard was the best player for the Mavs on the floor in this game. Dirk, The Jet Jason Terry, and other key players sat out for DNP's. Next, the Grizzlies beat the Rockets 75-69. Rudy Gay got 14 points and 4 boards in 23 and a half minutes. Great premiere for Gay. I expect him to extend the Grizzlies possibilities in the playoffs this season. Tmac got 15 points and 5 assists in 18 and a half minutes. I just hope he will stay healthy. His back has hurt him in the past ends of seasons and maybe is over that now. Next, the Pistons beat the Heat 84-64 in San Juan, Puerto Rico. Another lovely place to play a basketball game. I have been to San Juan and I would have loved to see this game. Nazr Mohammed got 16 points and 8 boards in 30 and a half minutes. Mohammed replaced Big Ben with scoring instead of boards. We will see if the Pistons end up with a gap in the boards this year without Ben. Jason Kapono led the Heat with 12 points and 4 boards in 20 minutes. The rest of the Heat are still cruising with Finals fever but Kapono may have an impact this season. Next, the Denver Nuggets beat Efes Pilsen 118-102. Last, the LA Lakers beat the Utah Jazz 94-79. Lamar Odom got 18 points and 6 boards. Odom led LA without Kobe. Smush Parker got 13 points. Parker is good. He just has to keep it up in the playoffs and he will be fine. Vladimir Radmanovic got 7 points. Radmanovic played well.

SIXERS STEAL GAME FROM SUNS 103-100! The Sixers came back to beat the Phoenix Suns 103-100 in the Europe Live games. This game was boring at first, then, without AI on the court, Rodney Carney and Rick Bruson staged a comeback in the 4th. Allen Iverson led the way with 29 points and 5 assists in 29 and a half minutes. Iverson started hot but cooled down in the second half. I liked one of his passes to Chris Webber and think he will start to become more and more unselfish. Chris Webber got 17 points and 4 boards in 26 minutes. Webber was just like AI, cold in the second half. They will play more in season. Andrea Iguodala got 11 points and 10 boards in 12 minutes. Andrea put solid number up. He will become better and better and maybe win the dunk contest this year! Kyle Korver got 20 points and 7 boards in 35 minutes. He played well. Korver was taking quick shots but made most of them. The rookie Rodney Carney got 14 points and 7 boards in 26 minutes. Carney was a part of the group that played defense and nailed a couple of three's to get back on the Suns trail. Shawn Marion got 25 points and 8 rebounds in 9 and a half minutes. Marion was good. He will post up crazy number again this year probably. Steve Nash got 15 points and 9 assists in 6 and a half minutes. Nash was fantastic. His passes are still amazing and will still keep him in the MVP race. Raja Bell got 13 points and 3 assists in 6 and a half minutes. Bell was all right. He had to dish the ball a little more on the break. Leandro Barbosa got 20 points and 4 boards in 5 and a half minutes. Barbosa was outstanding. His outside shooting was superb, but his defense could have been tougher. Amare Stoudamire got 6 points and 6 boards in 7 and a half minutes. Amare was good in his first look this season. He still has to get all the mobililty back mentally and physically to get back to where he was before. Keep it tuned to Basketball Notes by Alex for your preseason coverage.

RAPTORS BITE WIZARDS IN PRESEASON OPENER!
The Toronto Raptors beat the Washington Wizards 93-88 to open the NBA preseason. Good start to a new Raptors squad. This was a swing game where different teams would dominate different periods. Fred Jones led the way for the Raptors with 17 points and 4 boards in 28 minutes off the bench. The Raptors should be happy to have his aggressiveness come off the bench. Chris Bosh had 14 points and 5 boards in 26 and a half minutes. Adequate start for Bosh. I expect his attacks on the boards to become more vicious in the future though. T.J. Ford got 8 points and dished out 5 assists in 23 minutes. Ford might start slow. He still has to play it safe and stay healthy so don't expect outrageous numbers in the preseason to waste his gas. Andrea Bargnani got 8 points and 4 boards in 13 and a half minutes. Slow and disappointing begining for Bargnani. All he did was knock down two threes and I don't see him being a major factor until mid-season. Gilbert Arenas got 29 points and 4 assists in 29 and a half minutes. Wow Arenas was hot. He got to the line a lot and proved he is out to win this year. Jarvis Hayes got 14 points and 3 boards in 19 minutes off the bench. Good start for a player who had a bad year last time. Maybe he will become what the Wizards want him to be this season. Antawn Jamison got 11 points and 7 boards in 30 minutes. Jamison did okay. He will play okay now but will kick into gear in the season. Tomorrow be sure to watch the Sixers play the Suns at 3pm Eastern time on Espn2.

SPURS BEAT MACCABI TEL AVIV 97-84!
The San Antonio Spurs beat the Euroleague's Maccabi Tel Aviv 97-84 in the Europe Live games. I thought the Spurs would win but I knew Maccabi would give them a run for their money and they did. The sharp shooting of Maccabi kept them close. Tony Parker got 27 points. Parker was acrobatic. His moves over the Maccabi big men were eye popping. Tim Duncan had 15 points and 11 boards. Old school stats for Tim. Tim will start with a flare this season and is smoking already. Manu Ginobili got 10 points. He didn't have his best game. The Spurs big three always has two that will usually stand out each game and Ginobili wasn't it this time. Jamie Arnold got 15 points and 9 boards for Maccabi. Good game for Arnold. Rodney Buford who plays for Maccabi now added 8 points. Interesting to see he's playing in the Euroleague now. Stay tuned to Basketball Notes by Alex for all of your preseason coverage.

CSKA MOSCOW BEAT CLIPPERS 94-75!
CSKA Moscow beat the LA Clippers 94-75 in the Europe Live games. This is a surprise for me. The Clipps are a decent team and even though Moscow is okay, the Clipps are really good. Chris Kaman had 15 points. Kaman was all right. He was the leading scorer but had even more points last game. The Clipps have to score more. Trajan Langdon got 17 for CSKA. Langdon played well. The Clipps are headed back to the USA now, but the Europe Live games will still roll on!

CLIPPERS BEAT BC KHIMKI 98-91!
The LA Clippers beat BC Khimki 98-91 in more of the Europe Live games. The Clipps seemed to run more than execute their offense and I expect the pace to slow down during the season. BC played well. They have a strong front line to throw at teams. Shaun Livingston got 19 points and shoot 8-12 from the field. Livingston had a good game. The best highlight of his was a pretty behind the back pass to The Cat Cuttino Mobley for an easy layup. Corey Maggette got 17 points. Maggette did good. I am concerned with how he will start this season. His injury wasn't fully healed in the playoffs so we will see how he does now. Chris Kaman also had 17 points. Kaman seems like he his coming back with a boom. His moves look good and he is in shape for this season. Cuttino Mobley got 15 points. Mobley seems like he is just breaking in the new season. He looks ready but not 100% ready to go. Sam Cassell, Tim Thomas and Aaron Williams were not playing as the Coaches decision. Keep it tuned to Basketball Notes by Alex for inept coverage of these games.

SUNS BEAT LOTTOMATICA 100-93!
The Phoenix Suns beat Lottomatica Roma 100-93 in the Europe Live preseason games. Even though they didn't have Amare Stoudamire this is a good start to the preseason. The Suns won because of their running game and Roma couldn't keep up. Shawn Marion got 19 points. Marion was catching alley oops just like last season and hopefully will become more of a star this season. Leandro Barbosa and Raja Bell got 18 points each. Both played well. I look for Barbosa to play a big roll and maybe Nash can get more rest this season if Amare is back. Bell will be key if he can stay healthy. He will start the season strong I predict. James Jones got 10 points. Jones is just what Phoenix needs on their bench. When the playoffs come around this year I expect him to be more confident and affective. David Hawkins got 22 points for Lottomatica. Hawkins had a nice dunk I saw on the highlights. Dejan Bodiroga got 17 points. Bodiroga played great.

The San Antonio Spurs beat Adecco 115-90 in Europe Live preseason games. Tony Parker had 25 points. Parker played well. I expect him to play well in the preseason but slow down a little at the first weeks of the season. Rowan Barrett got 22 points for Adecco ASVEL and Brian Green added 19 points. All of these players are foreign. It is nice to see that in American sports.

FC BARCELONA BEAT SIXERS 104-99!
The Sixers were the first NBA to loss to a European team in Spain today when they lost 100-95 to FC Barcelona. Samuel Dalembert led the Sixers with 21 points, 10 boards and seven blocks. Great start in the preseason for Dalembert. Even though this is the Euroleague (which does have game), anywhere you get seven blocks you go to work just like last season for Dalembert. Juan Navarro got 18 points for FC Barcelona. Navarro played well. He is a consistent showing of how international basketball is catching up. Keep it tuned to Basketball Notes by Alex for all your preseason coverage!

STRONG DOG TRYOUTS COVERAGE!

Yesterday, I went down to Sports+Field to cover the final Tampa Bay Strong Dogs tryout and this is what I think of the players.
Most of the players had great athleticism, but were not great as far as shooting the three pointer. Coach Jim Price had the players working hard on various drills like trying to teach players to stop the offense from driving and showing them how to move on the court and set screens.
A few of the stand out players from this tryout will move on to training and veteran camps to work more with the Strong Dogs. Keep it tuned to Basketball Notes by Alex for more coverage on the Strong Dogs and all basketball!
